Pastor's Viewpoint

MY ZINGER #1 > September 29, 2008

I am not referring to a Dolly Madison Bakery® product, but rather to a a short, witty statement meant to cause interest by the reader. I am not sure how witty "my zingers" will be, but they will be short. This leads to why I want them to be concise and straight to the point: I can communicate with you better. Due to the rapid pace of today's world, most people's attention and interest span is limited to a few words, gestures or visuals. Some of you are already bored at reading these few words! As a general rule, sermons should be short. Someone said that they have yet to hear a bad short sermon! There are times when you should perhaps pray for hours on end, but the general rule is as Ecclesiastes 5:2 says, "...God is in heaven and you are on the earth; therefore let your words be few."  In prayer I believe God is more impressed with the sincerity of our words rather than their number.
